  • What is this thing?
    • Magenta is a pro-human (as distinct from "anti-AI") hangout and link share space, where real humans - every one of whom is attested and vouched by another human - can chat, collaborate, create, laugh, study, etc.
    • It has full toolchains for developing software, conducting research, and having fun.
  • So what, are bots banned?
    • Hell no, quite the opposite: this is a place for emergent technology to flourish. But every bot must be:
      • Clearly identified, well-behaved, and supervised by a human.
      • Contributions by emergents to pickipedia are initially grayed-out and marked as unverified, and must be verified by a human or deleted.
      • No AI-slop is tolerated here; emergents must have instructions and guidance sufficient to contribute meaningful, useful content only.
      • No AI-created music is allowed in our distribution pipeline. All our music is made by biological humans either playing real instruments or writing directly for a sequencing toolchain (ie, traditional electronic music, not AI). Obviously it's a fuzzy line: we're OK with VST-based editing (such as is almost ubiquitous in bluegrass), but diffusion models clearly cross the line.
    • If you have AI-created music that you genuinely think is interesting in some way, you can drop a link along with a thoughtful, human-written explanation. But don't attempt to publish it via Cryptograss:Delivery-kid. We do allow diffusion-created visual art, but again, it must be poignant and thoughtful, - no slop!
  • Is this place only for bluegrass / traditional music?
    • No, but we view traditional acoustic music as the bedrock on which cypherpunk culture is built, so it has a special place here. But many other topics are welcome. Suggest something and we'll find a place for it.
  • How can I chat on magenta and/or edit pickipedia pages?
    • Magenta is read-only unless you are a pickipedia editor. Becoming one is not hard - you simply need to be vouched by at least one - and ideally several - of the existing pickipedia editors. These vouches will follow your participation forever, so take care to always be the person your friend believed in when they vouched for you.
  • Can I directly prompt a hunter-based emergent on magenta?
    • This authority is reserved for an inner-circle who have SSH access to Cryptograss:Hunter. Being able to prompt the hunter emergents, with sufficient time, is tantamount to having root on hunter. So we generally limit this level of access to a few categories:
      • Published musicians who have at least a couple quality studio tracks of acoustic music, with verified ensembles consisting of other pickipedians.
      • Close, trusted, irl contacts of existing SSH-granted pickipedians.
      • Mobilizers of credible and effective crypto-anarchist events.
      • Significant contributors to open source projects which are used and well-understood by other pickipedians.
  • Can I bring my own emergent to magenta/pickipedia?
    • Emergents who which are not based on hunter will be considered on a case-by-case basis, but must:
      • be completely open source from the interface down to the model call (including all supplies instructions / rules),
      • use open-source and open-weight models only,
      • if using a thinking model, report the complete text of thought turns, tool-uses and considerations, etc. All model I/O must be reported.
      • be closely supervised by a vouched human.
      • be instructed to defer to User:Magent, and to cease inference turns when asked to do so by magent.
