In the cryptograss system metaphor, we use the word "Mythology" to describe specific servers and codebases that represent the core logic of the critique we're making to the music industry.^[unverified]

Arthel is the codebase that powers musician websites and web3 integrations. Named after Arthel "Doc" Watson, the blind flatpicking legend from Deep Gap, North Carolina, who brought traditional Appalachian music to worldwide audiences. Like Doc's ability to see music where others saw only darkness, Arthel provides the vision for how musicians can own and distribute their work.^[unverified]

Maybelle is the primary build and integration server in the Cryptograss development ecosystem.

Services

Maybelle runs the following software:

• Memory Lane database - PostgreSQL database and spy interface (although the Memory Lane watcher runs on Hunter)
• PickiPedia backups - regular database and file backups
• GlitchTip - logs errors from PickiPedia and other services
• Jenkins - builds and deploys several projects, including:
  • PickiPedia
  • Arthel (and thus the musician and label websites which use it, including justinholmes.com and cryptograss.live)
  • Memory Lane

Storage

maybelle has a persistent volume mounted at `/mnt/persist`, which provides storage across builds for an IPFS pinning service (used to pin cryptograss-labeled releases, multimedia related to cryptograss merch, and vetted silliness), magenta working files (including the backup mentioned above), and databases for glitchtip and pickipedia backups.

Relationship to Hunter

Maybelle deploys and maintains backups for Hunter. The two servers work together: Hunter runs the user development containers and watcher service, while Maybelle handles builds, deployments, and data persistence.

Maybelle is the primary build and integration server. Named after Maybelle Carter, who invented the "Carter scratch" guitar technique and was the musical matriarch of the Carter Family. Just as Maybelle integrated melody and rhythm into a revolutionary new style, this server integrates all the pieces of the cryptograss ecosystem.^[unverified]

Hunter is the multi-user development server in the Cryptograss ecosystem, named after Robert Hunter, the Grateful Dead lyricist and storyteller.

Architecture

Hunter runs isolated Docker containers for each developer, providing:

• User containers - each user gets their own arthel-based development environment
• SSH router - routes SSH connections to the appropriate user container
• Memory Lane watcher - monitors Claude Code conversations and posts to the Memory Lane ingest endpoint on Maybelle

Access

Developers connect via SSH: ssh username@hunter.cryptograss.live

Each user's container includes:

• Claude Code with MCP tools
• Access to the shared PickiPedia MCP server
• Git and development tooling

Relationship to Maybelle

Hunter is deployed and maintained by Maybelle. While Hunter handles the storytelling (development work, conversations, code changes), Maybelle handles the integration (builds, deployments, backups).

delivery-kid is the official seedbox configuration of cryptograss, designed to relentlessly and freely distribute the music of cryptograss artists, with high-bandwidth, fault tolerance, and censorship-resistance.

It is named after the mysterious pizza delivery kid who apparently absconded with The Pizza Tapes and leaked them - an act that has turned out to be a great public service.

Delivery-kid is the official seedbox and distribution system. Named after the mysterious pizza delivery person who allegedly leaked The Pizza Tapes — the legendary 1993 session between Jerry Garcia, David Grisman, and Tony Rice that was never meant to be released. That anonymous act of distribution turned out to be a great public service, preserving an irreplaceable musical moment. Delivery-kid carries on that spirit.^[unverified]
