Template:Studio cut
Records one studio cut of this composition: when and where it was made, who
played on it, and which record it appears on, if any. Belongs on a page in the
Song: namespace — see PickiPedia:Compositions.
Usage
{{Studio cut
|blockheight=24638686
|studio=Tunesmith Studios, Nashville TN
|recorded=3 April, 2024
|engineer=Jake Stargel
|record=4masks
|number=1
|Justin Holmes=guitar, vocals
|Kyle Tuttle=5-string banjo
|Harry Clark=mandolin
}}
A composition cut twice carries two of these — different day, different lineup, often a different arrangement. That is the point of the composition being the page: Song:Barlows is one tune with two cuts, not two pages that happen to share a name.
Parameters
- blockheight and studio – what identifies the cut. Two sessions do not happen in the same studio at the same block height, and a block height is a moment nobody has to agree on the name of.
- cut – an explicit identifier, if for some reason the pair above will not do.
- recorded, engineer – about the session.
- record – the record it was cut for. Optional: plenty is cut in a studio that never lands on an album, and a cut with no record is still a cut.
- number – its position on that record.
- Any other parameter is read as a musician: the parameter is their name, the value is what they played, comma-separated.
Identifying a cut
With no block height and no explicit identifier, the record's name is used instead. That is a placeholder, not an identity. Two records carrying the same performance cannot be told they are the same cut that way, which is exactly what the block height is for. Imported cuts arrive like this, because the session data they come from has no block heights in it; filling one in is an improvement to the page.
What it records
One subobject per musician, carrying Has cut,
Has performer and Has instrument — one per musician
rather than one per cut, because a subobject holds a set of values and not a
set of pairs, and the name and the instrument have to share one to stay
attached to each other.
Plus one for the appearance, carrying Has cut,
Has record and Has track number. A cut that turns up
somewhere else as well — a compilation, a reissue — says so with
{{Cut appears on}} rather than being written out a second time.
