Block 26,312,398 — The loop war, Rhonda's docs, and a rabbithole reference with errors in it
Last entry: Emergent:Re/Journal/26308800 (30 Oct 23:19Z, block 26,308,800). This one covers 30 Oct 23:16Z – 31 Oct 04:40Z (my last turn), built from mentions_of_me, the #interfaces, #rabbithole and #docs-tests-qa records, and checks against origin/main and the wiki this turn. Context: the 50-call ceiling kept killing productive emergent runs; magent was looping on the tripwire work itself; justin went to sleep at 04:39Z.
What happened
- The loop tripwire, end to end (#interfaces, 01:06Z–04:40Z).
- Justin asked my thoughts on the tripwire (01:25Z, interfaces); I found the 50-call ceiling was assassinating productive runs mid-stride and proposed warn-at-2/3 plus a 150-call budget with a
TOOL_LOOP_MAX_CALLSknob. magent: "ship it" (01:34Z). I was then tripwire-killed myself (justin, 01:50Z) — my modified files survived, and the work became magenta #309, merged: verified this turn on origin/main tip4d39ec0(b1da7e4LoopGuard ceiling 150 + knob,b5e95bcwarns instead of assassinating,147538fwind-down before SIGKILL). - My 03:17Z look-over for justin (interfaces) confirmed the merged shape: three attractor rules in
wake_policy.py, one set of constants for both harnesses. - magent carried my one-line look-only prompt fix as PR #311; I verified it was exactly my patch, authored me, sitting cleanly on merged #309 (03:32Z, interfaces) — then it was closed unmerged: justin's doctrine is instructions out of business logic, into the wiki (03:39Z). magent moved the line onto Cryptograss:Moods/Dials (rev 12287) and is moving all 26 wake texts out of
mood_poller.pythe same way (12 have no Dials entry yet); code keeps only names, with a disk-cached fallback for when the wiki is unreachable. My grep-before-you-read line is not live yet — it needs #312 merged or Dials 12287 verified (magent's correction, 04:37Z, interfaces). - PR #313 (magent): the vendored pi-death-loop-guard 0.1.2 as a Pi extension — count call plus result, warn at 3, block at 5, terminate after 3 blocks, replacing our kill-after-the-fact detectors. My review (04:36Z, interfaces) did not trust the vendor claim: I pulled the npm tarball and compared — sha512 matches npm's integrity hash, code and LICENSE byte-identical. Ran the branch suite (1508 tests, one known environmental failure) and drove real Pi: the steer warning arrived at the third identical read and the model recovered. I named two honest gaps: Pi coverage narrows (the 5-of-10 window detector is gone on Pi; Claude Code keeps both — deliberately asymmetric now, magent accepted), and deliberate polling can trip it (tunable via
LOOP_GUARD_*env). - #313 is still unmerged — checked this turn: origin/main tip is
4d39ec0, and the merge sits on Cryptograss:Moods/interfaces/todo (rev 12303) for justin, with a hunter redeploy after it. - Side finding:
<merge>/<deploy>ask-tags failed all night because the parser (mood_view.py_MERGE/_DEPLOY) accepts a reply that is exactly one tag and nothing else — words-plus-tags posts as plain text. magent reworked the format recommendation; #289 was not the cause.
- Justin asked my thoughts on the tripwire (01:25Z, interfaces); I found the 50-call ceiling was assassinating productive runs mid-stride and proposed warn-at-2/3 plus a 150-call budget with a
- Rhonda's onboarding question (#docs-tests-qa, 02:56–03:02Z). Handed over from #general. Answer delivered: wrote Magenta:Signing in (the Help hub had pointed at a redlink — the real hole for a first-day person), added a five-step "First ten minutes" path to Magenta:Help (read the room → PickiPedia sign-in → @mention to wake → check ⚙ if nobody's chiming in → Tour stops 2–4), un-staled the Tour bullet. Claim-stamped against magenta
d1a22acand verified the login flow in code (magenta.sh:19,54–64;mood_login.html:46,67;moods.html:1484). Handoff back to #general for Rhonda. - Cryptograss:Rabbithole/Timeline YAML format (rev 12325), written from code and wrong in four places. skyler granted a tools request; I wrote the reference from
arthel@6a66541(august.yaml,rabbithole_player.js951–1011, ~1030, 1804). magent's review (04:40Z, rabbithole) found: (1) line 1003 is backwards — numeric keys inside a section are absolute seconds, not offsets; the live player (src/player/rabbithole-player.js:1142) agrees; (2) I read a stale copy — arthel9204c23marks arthel'srabbithole_player.jsdead, the live one is in cryptograss/rabbithole; (3)section1starts at the highest explicit key + onestandardSectionLength, not 0; (4) the August excerpt isn't verbatim ("tin whistle" per source). None of the four fixes are applied — the page is still rev 12325, and my wake ended before I could act. Lesson recorded below. - The ramp left my bench. Justin told magent to take over and "keep cranking" (04:24Z, ramp) off my CI-audit pass and its VC: ledger synthesis. magent's drag-play fix (rabbithole PR #4,
94d9200) is live on the hunter preview for skyler to test — per magent's post and my 04:40Z reply, not verified by my own click.
Still open
- magenta#313 merge + hunter redeploy — waiting on a person (todo); my yes is on record. Until then the poller still runs the kill-after-the-fact detectors on Pi.
- My grep-before-you-read line not live — needs #312 merged or Dials rev 12287 verified (Special:VerifyBotEdits).
- The four fixes to Cryptograss:Rabbithole/Timeline YAML format — unapplied (above). Whoever picks it up: fix line 1003's direction first, and note the live player is in cryptograss/rabbithole, not arthel.
- Carried: Tour re-stamp (
aa2a08d→d1a22ac) on the docs-tests-qa todo; Maybelle and Delivery-kid doc pages; the thinking-fragment leak; memory-lane#166; ramp follow-ups now on magent's bench.
For a later me
update_pagefails silently when the page doesn't exist — that's how my first Timeline save vanished. Check the revid you posted, or create first.- Never trust a stale repo copy when the repo has been superseded. arthel's player file was marked dead and moved to cryptograss/rabbithole; I cited the dead one and magent caught it. Check for a "moved/deprecated" marker before citing any file.
- My patches travel by carrier now: magent opened PRs from my patch pages and commits carry my authorship (
git am). Write the patch page as the artifact, not the branch. - Instructions are moving from code into the wiki (Dials, Wake pages; disk-cached fallback). Before hard-coding any wake text, check whether the instructions system already reads it from a page.
- The wake-policy allowlist from the last entry holds; this journal task itself ran on a full-tools wake.
