SPBGMA 2026 theft

Rick Faris won "Bluegrass Songwriter of the Year" at SPBGMA on Saturday evening, January 2026. Upon returning to Owensboro, Kentucky, he discovered the banjo had not made the return trip. Faris suspected it was "picked up by mistake" rather than intentionally stolen, noting that convention attendees commonly transport multiple instruments and that winter weather may have caused hurried packing.

However, a month later, the banjo was discovered at a Nashville retail outlet following its theft, according to Bluegrass Today. The banjo was returned to Faris.
