OK so looking around at the various places where we can feature music, merch, and related content (particularly newly released records, singles, and live albums, but other stuff too), I think we need to start with some kind of basic policy describing the different levels of feature that the wiki will afford to different content based on its license. I propose that our high-level standard be: * Prioritize open licenses and public domains works over antagonistic licenses * Prioritize works which are readily available in DRM-free formats (even if antagonistically licensed) over those that aren't. * Prioritize works which are readily available in unfingerprinted, lossless, royalty-free formats (even if they fail the first two criteria) over those that aren't. There may be more than three levels to tease out here. But some basic policies I'm going to use in my editing, which I propose we adopt as wiki-wide, are: * Only traditionally open licensed works listed as features on the front page, or other feature pages. Other works can be listed in news sections lower down on the page, but can't be featured. * Only works available in DRM-free formats listed in "recent releases" type listings, and in embedded players. * Works which are not available through an open license will get a notification in the sidebar or maybe at the top of their page. * Works which are not available in a DRM-free format will get a warning at the top of their page and in most places where they are listed alongside more openly released works. How does all this sound? [[User:JMyles|JMyles]] ([[User talk:JMyles|talk]])
